High-Level Meetings of the Archbishop of Thyateira in Cyprus
Nicosia, 27 August 2025 – His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain, accompanied by His Grace Bishop Iakovos of Claudiopolis, was received on the morning of 27 August by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, in a meeting held in a cordial atmosphere.
During the meeting, His Eminence had the opportunity to present to the President the issues concerning the Holy Archdiocese of Thyateira, as well as the expatriate communities of Cypriots and Greeks in the United Kingdom. The President, after thanking the Archbishop, affirmed that Cyprus stands as a supporter by the side of its diaspora. “Having served as Consul General in the United Kingdom,” he stated, “I experienced firsthand the expatriate community, its people, and their relatives there. They are warm, energetic, and active people. Our expatriates strive and struggle, and we, as a government, feel very proud as we closely follow your work.” The President also highlighted the excellent level of relations between Cyprus and Great Britain, particularly following the recent historic visit of the British Prime Minister to the island, and requested the Archbishop’s prayers for the success of efforts towards the liberation of Cyprus.
Subsequently, Archbishop Nikitas met with the President of the House of Representatives, Mrs. Annita Demetriou, who received him with sentiments of profound respect and appreciation for his person and for the work carried out by the Church within the expatriate community. Both agreed that the Church plays a leading role, embracing everyone, and that, through the Archbishop, the Bishops, and the Holy Clergy, it makes tremendous efforts both to support the diaspora and to promote the Cyprus issue.
Following the conclusion of the meetings, His Eminence, accompanied by His Grace Bishop of Claudiopolis, proceeded to the Nicosia Municipal Theatre to attend the proceedings of the World Conference of Overseas Cypriots.
