The Church today venerates the memory of Eumenius, the Wonder-worker, Bishop of Gortynia.
St. Eumenius took up monastic life in his youth, and later became Bishop of Gortynia, on the large island of Crete. He travelled to Rome and Thebes in Upper Egypt, where after working many miracles, he reposed in deep old age.
