Announcement of the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Archdiocese of Australia
By the grace of God, on Thursday, 2 October of this year, the proceedings of the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Archdiocese of Australia commenced, convening in its regular October Session, under the presidency of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
Following the opening prayer, the Minutes of the previous Session were ratified and, thereafter, the Holy Synod proceeded to examine the matters included in the Agenda, after His Eminence the President welcomed its new member, the newly ordained Bishop Athinagoras of Canberra.
Upon the proposal of His Eminence the Archbishop, the Holy Eparchial Synod appointed as its Undersecretary the Archimandrite of the Ecumenical Throne, Amphilohios Papantoniou, and as Codifier the Archimandrite Eirinaios Trialonakis.
After an assessment of the recently concluded Second Pan-Australian Clergy Synaxis, the Holy Eparchial Synod expressed the warm congratulations and satisfaction of the local Church to the devout priests, monks, and nuns who came from across the continent to participate in the Synaxis with exemplary ethos and fruitful contributions. The central theme of the conference, “Social Media and the Priesthood: The use of Social Media by the Clergy”, provided participants the opportunity to reflect in a fruitful and ecclesial manner on the use of modern means of communication by the clergy.
The universally acknowledged success of the Second Pan-Australian Clergy Synaxis is owed, certainly, also to the distinguished speakers, to whom the Holy Eparchial Synod conveys its congratulations and gratitude. Particular thanks are extended to the speakers from abroad:
His Eminence Metropolitan Ignatios of Demetrias and Almyros
His Eminence Metropolitan Grigorios of Cameroon
His Eminence Metropolitan Ioustinos of Nea Krini and Kalamaria
His Eminence Metropolitan Damaskinos of Aetolia and Acarnania
Archimandrite Ignatios Mourtzanos, Protosyncellus of the Holy Metropolis of Larissa and Tyrnavos
Hieromonk Chrysostomos, Elder of the Kellion of Saint John Chrysostom of the Koutloumousiou Skete, Mount Athos
Patriarchal Deacon Fr Photios Poulopoulos
Finally, with deep gratitude, filial thanks are expressed to His All-Holiness, our Ecumenical Patriarch, for the solemn Patriarchal recorded Message that was presented at the Second Pan-Australian Clergy Synaxis, as well as for the Patriarchal Delegation which, through the paternal and patriarchal care of His All-Holiness, was sent to the Fifth Continent, consisting of His Eminence Metropolitan Apostolos of Miletus and the Patriarchal Deacon Photios.
The proceedings of the Synod will continue today, 3 October 2025.
From the Chief Secretariat of the Holy Eparchial Synod
