Lower Danube Archdiocese to build rehabilitation centre for youth affected by addiction
A rehabilitation and social reintegration centre for young people affected by addictions will be built in Galați County, an initiative of the Archdiocese of the Lower Danube in partnership with local medical and educational institutions, according to the Agerpres news agency.
The project was presented by Archbishop Casian of the Lower Danube during the feast day of the “Protection of the Mother of God” Skete in Frumușița, Galați County. The hierarch said the new centre will serve as “a clinic of hope and healing — a space of spiritual therapy for adolescents suffering from the diseases of sadness.”
“Our hope grows that the Garden of the Mother of God will be cultivated for a special category of young people who need the loving medicine of the Theotokos,” Archbishop Casian added.
The event gathered medical specialists from the ‘Elisabeta Doamna’ Psychiatric Hospital of Galați, faculty members and students from the University of Galați’s Faculty of History, Philosophy, and Theology, and staff from the Tichilești Juvenile Detention Centre, all of whom will participate in the project’s implementation.
Dr Eduard Drima Polea, a psychiatrist from the Elisabeta Doamna Hospital, praised the initiative as “a remarkable idea to help young people rediscover their lost freedom.”
Valentina Voinea, head of psychosocial assistance at the Tichilești Penitentiary, also welcomed the collaboration: “Through our experience and resources, we can help implement the project, raise awareness in the community, and support social reintegration.”
The new social centre is being built with the support of the Nativity of the Mother of God Monastery – Cudalbi, on land donated by a family of believers from Bucharest, located in the outskirts of Frumușița, Galați County.
