Visit of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Mr Alexios Vafeiadis to the Patriarchate
On the evening of Tuesday, the 8th/21st of October 2025, His Beatitude, our Father and Patriarch of Jerusalem, Theophilos, warmly received the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Alexios Vafeiadis, together with the Ambassador of Cyprus to Tel Aviv, Mr Kornelios, and his associates.
His Beatitude presented to the Ambassador the centuries-long work of the Patriarchate, pastoral, cultural, and peacemaking, and the close bonds of the Patriarchate with the Republic and the Church of Cyprus, as well as the fact that the Patriarchate maintains an Exarchate and assets in Cyprus.
His Beatitude also referred to the humanitarian work carried out by the Patriarchate in Gaza since the beginning of the war, which is conducted especially at the Monastery of Saint Porphyrius, recently visited by His Beatitude.
On this occasion, the Minister presented to His Beatitude a plaque depicting the history of Cyprus in the ancient language, as well as a plaque showing the renovated Church of Saint Andrew in the occupied area of Cyprus. In response, His Beatitude offered to Mr Vafeiadis an icon of the Theotokos and a painting of the Holy City of Jerusalem.
Thanking His Beatitude for this visit, the Minister sought His Blessing to venerate the Holy Sepulchre.
