Greek PM to propose int’l summit on climate change effects on world cultural heritage
The holding of an international summit in Athens within 2020 to deal with the risks faced by the world’s cultural heritage from climate change will reportedly be proposed by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during his address this week at a special climate conference held on the sidelines of the UN’s annual general assembly.
Several Orthodox historical monuments are currently at risk from climate change.
The Greek prime minister arrived in NYC this week to attend the UNGS, with several meetings with representatives of Greek expatriate groups scheduled, as well as a meeting with Archbishop of America, His Eminence Elpidophoros, on Thursday.
Several Greek Cabinet members are accompanying Mitsotakis on his trip to attend and speak at the UNGS, with several already having been received by Elpidophoros, including Culture Minister Lina Mendoni.
Education and Religious Affairs Minister Niki Kerameos will be received by the Archbishop of America.
