Mount Athos: The Feast of the Translation of the Relics of Saint George at Xenophontos Monastery
The Holy Monastery of Xenophontos on Mount Athos celebrated with great festivity the Feast of the Translation of the Relics of the Holy Great Martyr George the Trophy-Bearer, on Sunday, 16 November 2025 (according to the Old Calendar).
Officially invited guests were His Eminence Metropolitan Makarios of Sidirokastro and His Eminence Metropolitan Timotheos of Thessaliotida and Fanariopharsalos, whom the Brotherhood received with due reverence on the eve of the feast. During the all-night vigil, Metropolitan Makarios presided, with Metropolitan Timotheos co-presiding. Participating also were the Abbot of the celebrating Monastery, Archimandrite Elder Alexios; the Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Pantokrator, Archimandrite Elder Gabriel; the Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Panagia Phaneromeni in Lefkada, Archimandrite Nikiforos; as well as a multitude of Hieromonks, Priests, and Deacons.
In the right choir chanted the fathers of the Cell of the Dormition of the Theotokos of St Anna, led by Elder Kallinikos; in the left choir, the distinguished Protopsaltis of the Church of St Gregory Palamas in Thessaloniki, Mr. Ioannis Liakos, together with his large choir. They rendered the hymns of the feast with exceptional skill and fervour.
In the morning, the festive Divine Liturgy was celebrated, with the two Hierarchs concelebrating, together with the Abbots of Xenophontos and Pantokrator Monasteries, and a large host of Hieromonks, Priests, and Deacons. During the Divine Liturgy, the great blessing of the ordination of two brothers of the Monastery took place.

His Eminence Metropolitan Timotheos ordained Deacon Theodosios to the priesthood, and His Eminence Metropolitan Makarios ordained Monk Makarios to the diaconate—both from Karditsa. The Grace of the All-Holy Spirit overshadowed the two newly ordained brothers and all the faithful, while the God-pleasing intercessions and blessing of the patron Saint, the Holy Great Martyr George, embraced the entire congregation.
A festive meal followed, with speeches and expressions of gratitude. After the polychronion in the Katholikon, a reception was held in the Synodikon of the Monastery, with doxology offered to God and the Theotokos, for the divine blessings abundantly bestowed upon the Holy Monastery and its pilgrims.
