Students from All Saints Grammar Sydney visit the Holy Monastery of Saint George, Yellow Rock
The Year 6 students of All Saints Grammar, Belmore, were warmly welcomed to the Holy Monastery of St George, Yellow Rock, by the Abbot of the Monastery, His Grace Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis.
At All Saints Grammar, students are encouraged and provided with opportunities to live out their Orthodox faith and deepen their understanding of what they learn in their weekly Orthodoxy lessons by participating in the sacraments, services and traditions so they may grow closer to God and His Church. The visit to St George, Yellow Rock, is a cherished highlight of the school calendar.
Accompanied by Father Dimitrios Papaikonomou, Parish Priest of All Saints Church Belmore and School Chaplain; Mrs Synesios, Head of Primary and Orthodoxy Teacher; and their classroom teachers, Ms Hurst and Mrs Katehos, the students arrived prepared with the names of their loved ones – written at home with their parents – to offer during the Paraklesis (Supplication) service to Panayia of Yellow Rock.
With love and reverence, the students participated in the Paraklesis, joining in the responses “Lord have mercy” and “Most Holy Theotokos, save us.” They were blessed with the opportunity not only to venerate the icon of Panayia of Yellow Rock but also the relics of St George.
Following the service, His Grace offered a reflection on the Gospel reading, “Let the children come to me” (Mark 10:13–16), reminding the students of the importance of staying close to God. He also shared the story of the monastery’s establishment and spoke about the faith and dedication of its benefactors – humble people who worked tirelessly to raise the funds needed to build the monastery. With patience and warmth, His Grace answered the students’ questions and encouraged them to cultivate a life of prayer. Each student and teacher received an icon of Panayia of Yellow Rock and St George, along with Holy Water and Holy Oil as a memento of their visit.
The students of All Saints Grammar extend their heartfelt thanks to His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia for this blessing, and to His Grace Bishop Iakovos for welcoming them into the monastery and allowing them to participate in such a spiritual and uplifting pilgrimage. It is an experience they will treasure and never forget.
