Turkish historian Orhan Esen on Friday said he feels safer in the Haghia Sophia Cathedral during an earthquake rather than in contemporary buildings.
Esen said the illustrious structure, built 15 centuries ago in Constantinople, has survived 65 quakes, including this week 5.7 on’s the Richter scale tremor.
“The Haghia Sofia is the safest structure in the city,” he stressed.
