Patriarch Irinej in Budva: I am confident that Djukanovic will revoke Kosovo’s recognition

The Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church Irinej said today that he is confident that the President of Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic will revoke the recognition of the „false state“ of Kosovo and that he would „return to real values“.

At a church ceremony held in Grbalj near Budva – in the Podlastva Monastery celebrating 1500 years of existence, Patriarch Irinej said that Djukanovic gave him his regards through the Metropolitan bishop of Montenegro and Coastal Amfilohije and announced that he could not attend the celebration „because he was prevented“, Podgorica-based Vijesti reported.

Patriarch Irinej also said that Djukanovic comes from “an honest and respectable family,” while specifically referring to Djukanovic’s mother as a firm believer – Vijesti also reported.

„I hope that the apple does not fall far from the tree and that he will turn to the right values,“ Irinej said.

The head of the Serbian Orthodox Church is currently staying in Budva for a two-day ceremony celebrating 800 years of the church’s autocephaly.

The celebration began on Friday, September 27, 2019 at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Monastery in Lastva Grbaljska and continued on Saturday morning,  September 28, 2019 with a liturgy led by Patriarch Irinej.

Along with the SOC clergy, the leadership of the municipalities of Budva and Herceg Novi and the leaders of the New Serb Democracy led by Andrija Mandic also attended the festivities.

Patriarch Irinej’s arrival represents the first visit of SOC leaders to Boka and Budva in the last 27 years. Previously, the Patriarch Pavle visited this area in 1992.

Montenegrin media reported that a large number of believers welcomed the Patriarch.
