The Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate convened under the presidency of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, at its regular session on Thursday, 8 January, to examine the matters listed on the agenda.

According to the official Announcement: “At the beginning of the session, festive greetings and responses for the entry into the New Year were exchanged between His All-Holiness and His Eminence Elder Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon, on behalf of the Holy and Sacred Synod.

During this session, following requests by Their Eminences Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia and Metropolitan Dimitrios of France, and upon the proposal of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, canonical votes having been cast by the Holy and Sacred Synod in the All-Venerable Patriarchal Church, the following were elected:

-the Very Reverend Archimandrite of the Ecumenical Throne Bartholomew Iatridis, as Assistant Bishop to the Metropolitan of Sweden and All Scandinavia, with the title of the once-illustrious Diocese of Elaia;

-and the Very Reverend Archimandrite of the Ecumenical Throne Ambrosios Stabliakas, Protosyncellus of the Holy Metropolis of France, as Assistant Bishop to the Metropolitan of France, with the title of the once-illustrious Diocese of Sinope.

Furthermore, the sacred body approved the resignation submitted on 29 December 2025 to the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Church of Crete by His Eminence Eirinaios, former Metropolitan of Lambi, Syvritos and Sfakia. On the same day, by means of a solemn Patriarchal and Synodal Letter, the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Church of Crete was duly informed of this matter and of the subsequent procedures pertaining thereto.”
