Greece: The process for the establishment of the State School of Cinema and Audiovisual Media has been initiated
The Culture Ministry has taken another step towards the establishment of a state school of film and audiovisual media, Culture Minister Lina Mendoni has said.
Mendoni said studies for the new institution, conducted in conjunction with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, have been completed.
According to a ministry announcement, the project, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility with a budget of €327,000, concerned the planning and expert criteria for the creation of the school, which will be the first public educational institution in Greece exclusively dedicated to the professional training of film and audiovisual media technicians.
Mendoni said the completion of the studies marks the first decisive step toward establishing the school, which, when established, will strengthen the audiovisual sector and enhance the quality and international competitiveness of Greek production.
The ministry added that the school will provide specialized professional education in key fields, including film production, cinematography, editing, sound recording, post-production and animation, combining theoretical instruction with practical application.
Planning for the establishment of a State School of Film and Audiovisual Media has been completed, in accordance with a programmatic agreement between the culture ministry and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH).

Culture Minister Lina Mendoni stated: “ The completion of the studies marks the first and decisive step toward the establishment of the State School of Film and Audiovisual Media. The School forms part of the culture ministry’s broader policy to strengthen the audiovisual sector and is set to become one of the key pillars of our strategy for the development of film and audiovisual creation.
Through its operation, we aim to enhance professional education, develop human capital, and improve the quality of Greek production. Our goal is to create a modern, high-level public educational institution that provides specialised knowledge and practical training, thereby substantially contributing to the international competitiveness of Greek audiovisual creation.”
As noted in the Ministry’s announcement, the State School of Film and Audiovisual Media Technicians will provide specialised professional education in key fields such as film production, cinematography, editing, sound recording, post-production, and animation, combining theoretical instruction with practical application.
