Phanar: Announcement on the Proceedings of the Holy and Sacred Synod – Election of a Bishop
The Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate convened in its regular session on Monday, 2 March, under the presidency of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, reviewing all matters presented on the agenda, upon which the appropriate decisions were taken.
As noted in the relevant communiqué: “At the outset, the customary addresses and responses were exchanged between His All-Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch and the first in rank of the new Synodal Hierarchs, His Eminence Metropolitan Joseph of Proikonnesos, on the occasion of the commencement of the new synodal period.
During this session, upon the proposal of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, and canonical votes having been cast by the Holy and Sacred Synod in the Most Venerable Patriarchal Church, Archimandrite Dionysios Anagnostopoulos was elected from the threefold list submitted by the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Holy Archdiocese of America as Bishop under the title of Zenopolis, to serve as Assistant Bishop to His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael of Chicago.
Furthermore, the Lesser and Greater Messages of the said Bishop-elect were celebrated, after which he received the congratulations of His All-Holiness, the holy Hierarchs, and the members of the Patriarchal Court.”
