Memorial Service at the site of the accident of the seven PAOK fans in Romania
His Eminence Metropolitan Ioan of Banat held a memorial service on Saturday in Lugojel for the seven Greek fans who lost their lives in a road accident on 27 January 2026.
His Eminence served a Trisagion (memorial prayer service) and blessed the monument erected in their memory at the site of the accident.
About 120 supporters of PAOK Thessaloniki, as well as members of the victims’ families, took part in the memorial service.
“Dear brothers from Thessaloniki, the journey of your brothers may have ended here, at this place, but from here a new journey begins, toward Paradise,” said Metropolitan Ioan.
“I pray to the Apostle Paul, who loved Thessaloniki so much, to Saint Dimitrios the Great Martyr and to Saint Gregory Palamas to watch over their souls. May God grant them rest in peace.”
Memorial Monument
As a sign of fraternal solidarity, and with the support of supporters of the team Știința Politehnica Timișoara, a monument was erected in memory of the deceased: a cross made of black marble and an icon of Saint George the Trophy-Bearer.
