The Funeral Service for the Late Metropolitan Theoleptos of Iconium

With the due ecclesiastical order, the late Metropolitan Theoleptos of Iconium was solemnly committed to eternity from the Patriarchal Church on Tuesday, 23 June 2026.

In the morning, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated by His Eminence Metropolitan Stephanos of Kallioupolis and Madytos, at the conclusion of which a funeral Trisagion was chanted for the repose of the soul of the late Hierarch. His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew was prayerfully present.

Subsequently, at 12 noon, the funeral service was celebrated, presided over by His All-Holiness and concelebrated by Their Eminences Elder Metropolitan Apostolos of Derkoi, Elder Metropolitan Dimitrios of the Princes’ Islands, Metropolitan Ambrosios of Karpathos and Kasos, Metropolitan Apostolos of Miletus, Metropolitan Joseph of Proikonnesos, Metropolitan Damaskinos of Didymoteicho, Orestiada and Soufli, Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Myra, Metropolitan Andreas of Arkalochori, Kastelli and Viannos, Metropolitan Kyrillos of Rhodes, Metropolitan Stephanos of Kallipolis and Madytos, Metropolitan Athenagoras of Kydonia, Metropolitan Job of Pisidia, Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia, Metropolitan Maximos of Selyvria, Metropolitan Amphilochios of Adrianople, Metropolitan Kyrillos of Imbros and Tenedos, Metropolitan Andreas of Forty Churches, Metropolitan Joachim of Bursa, Metropolitan Constantine of Denver, and Metropolitan Gregorios of Ankara.

The mourning of the Mother Church was borne by Their Eminences Metropolitans Meliton of Philadelphia and Eireneos of Myriophyton and Peristasis.

The funeral oration was delivered by the Codicographer of the Holy and Sacred Synod, Deacon Evlogios Tsatsas.

Also present were Their Eminences Metropolitan Theodoros of Seleucia, representing His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and All Africa, and Metropolitan Nektarios of Anthedon, Commissioner of the Holy Sepulchre in Constantinople; Their Graces Bishops Adrianos of Halicarnassus, Kassianos of Aravissos, Benjamin of Trallee, Epiphanios of Examilion, Smaragdos of Daphnousia, and Paisios of Xanthoupolis; His Excellency Bishop Massimiliano Palinuro of the Roman Catholics of Constantinople; clergy of the Patriarchal Court, of the Holy Archdiocese of Constantinople and the neighbouring Metropolises; clergy of other confessions; Archons of the Holy Great Church of Christ; Mr Constantine Koutras, Consul General of Greece in Constantinople; relatives of the late Hierarch; former Minister Mr Markos Bolaris; representatives of the Greek community; and faithful from Constantinople and abroad.

The interment of the late Metropolitan of Iconium took place at the Şişli Cemetery and was conducted by His Eminence Metropolitan Andreas of Forty Churches.

Thereafter, the customary makaria meal was offered in the building of the Patriarchal Marasleio Urban School. During the gathering, His Eminence Metropolitan Theodoros of Seleucia, in a brief address, conveyed to His All-Holiness, the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and to the blood relatives of the late Hierarch the condolences of the Primate of the Most Ancient Patriarchate of Alexandria, His Beatitude Patriarch Theodoros II.
