The Church of Greece Celebrates the Feast of the Apostle Paul at the Sacred Hill of the Areopagus
The Church of Greece honoured the Apostle to the Nations, Saint Paul, at the Sacred Hill of the Areopagus, in commemoration of his preaching to the Athenians.
At the Great Festal Vespers, His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece presided.
Among those in attendance were Hierarchs, the Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports of Greece, Ms Sophia Zacharaki, the Minister for Migration and Asylum, Mr Athanasios Plevris, Members of Parliament, the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Dimitrios Houpis, the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, representatives of local authorities, the Security Forces and the Armed Forces, as well as clergy and laity.
During Vespers, an address appropriate to the occasion was delivered by His Grace Bishop Chrysostomos of Evripos.
The Master of Ceremonies was His Grace Bishop Barnabas of Christoupolis, Protosyncellus of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens.
Following the service, Archbishop Ieronymos, speaking from the Hill of the Areopagus, wished everyone bodily and spiritual health, together with divine enlightenment. As he characteristically remarked: “In the world in which we live, people communicate more, but often do not truly encounter one another. For this reason, the message of the Apostle Paul remains ever relevant.” He added: “The Church is called to become a place of dialogue, reconciliation, and hope. Christ is the way, the truth, and the life for every age and every culture.”
