The Icon of Panagia of Askos, “the Healer,” Visits the Holy Metropolis of Maroneia and Komotini
On the afternoon of Tuesday, 14 July, His Eminence Metropolitan Panteleimon of Maroneia and Komotini solemnly welcomed the revered wonderworking icon of Panagia of Askos, “the Healer” (8th century) to the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen in Thrylorio.
The holy icon was brought from the Holy Metropolis of Langadas, Liti and Rentinis in preparation for the forthcoming feast of Saint Marina, during which His Eminence celebrated the Festal Great Vespers at the same church.
In his address, Metropolitan Panteleimon expressed his heartfelt gratitude to His Eminence Metropolitan Platon of Langadas, Liti and Rentinis for graciously granting the request for the temporary transfer of the icon. He also thanked Fr Theodoros Paschalidis, rector of the Church of the Life-Giving Spring in Askos, who accompanied the sacred icon to the Metropolis.
Reflecting on the significance of the occasion, Metropolitan Panteleimon emphasised that the Most Holy Theotokos remains the faithful’s unfailing support in times of trial and difficulty. He described her as the living example of faith, humility and complete trust in the will of God, encouraging the faithful to seek her maternal intercessions with confidence and devotion.
