Holy Vigil at the Place of Martyrdom of Ethno-Hieromartyr Metropolitan Emilianos of Grevena
On Friday evening, 17 July, continuing into Saturday, His Eminence Metropolitan David of Grevena visited the sacred site of the martyrdom of Ethno-Hieromartyr Metropolitan Emilianos of Grevena. In an atmosphere of profound reverence and spiritual joy, His Eminence celebrated the now-established Holy Vigil for the commemoration of the holy and glorious Martyr Emilianos.
Beneath the starlit sky, amid the tranquillity and coolness of the forest, the site of the martyrdom was gently illuminated by small lanterns placed along the pathway, creating a unique atmosphere of prayer and sacred emotion. The natural beauty of the location, combined with the sanctity of the occasion, gave the vigil a distinctive character that touched the hearts of all those present.
Despite the late hour, a great multitude of devout faithful gathered at the site of the martyrdom to glorify the Triune God, honour the Holy Martyr Emilianos and pray reverently to their own Ethno-Hieromartyr and Shepherd, the ever-memorable Metropolitan Emilianos of Grevena. They sought his intercessions before the Lord for the salvation of their souls, the strengthening of their faith and peace throughout the world.
During the Holy Vigil, supplications were offered for the health and salvation of all the faithful. The prayerful participation of the congregation once again revealed the unbreakable bond between the local Church and its martyred Hierarch, whose sacrifice remains a living legacy of faith, patriotism and self-sacrifice.
In his address, His Eminence referred to the martyric journey of Ethno-Hieromartyr Metropolitan Emilianos of Grevena, emphasising that his example continues to inspire the faithful to remain steadfast in their faith, to love God and to offer themselves sacrificially in service to their neighbour and homeland.
This Holy Vigil, now an established tradition, constitutes a living institution for the Holy Metropolis of Grevena. It keeps the memory of the Ethno-Hieromartyr Hierarch inextinguishable and transmits to younger generations the message of confession, hope and unwavering trust in the Risen Christ.
