Vespers for Feast Day of Panagia Pantanassa at Porto Lagos
With particular reverence and spiritual joy, The Vespers was celebrated on Wednesday, 23 September, the eve of the feast of the Most Holy Theotokos Pantanassa, at the Vatopaidi Metochion of Saint Nicholas on Lake Vistonida, at Porto Lagos.
The Festal Hierarchical Vespers was presided over by His Eminence Metropolitan Panteleimon of Xanthi and Peritheorion, joined by the Abbot of the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopaidi, Elder Ephraim, fathers of the Vatopaidi brotherhood, as well as priests from various Holy Metropolises.
From early in the day, large numbers of faithful from the wider region of Thrace, as well as from Macedonia, Cyprus and Romania, filled the grounds of the Metochion, coming with reverence to honour Panagia Pantanassa and to seek her intercession, protection and maternal grace.
Representatives of the Armed Forces and Security Services were also notably present. Among those attending were the Commander of the Supreme Military Command of Thrace, Lieutenant General Panagiotis Kavidopoulos, as well as officers of the Army, the Hellenic Police, the Hellenic Coast Guard and the Fire Service.
The atmosphere at the Vatopaidi Metochion was particularly prayerful, as the faithful participated in the sacred service, honouring Panagia Pantanassa, who stands at the centre of the festal celebration.
Following the conclusion of Festal Vespers, the customary monastic refreshments were offered in the courtyard of the Metochion, where the faithful also had the opportunity to listen to spiritual talks by His Eminence Metropolitan Panteleimon of Xanthi and Elder Ephraim.
The annual feast at the Vatopaidi Metochion of Saint Nicholas is a significant spiritual event for the wider region, attracting large numbers of pilgrims who travel to Porto Lagos to honour the Most Holy Theotokos and participate in the sacred services of the feast.
