Preservation, restoration of churches around Russia subject of May con’f

The Russian Orthodox Church’s patriarchal council for culture organized a wide-ranging meeting in Moscow this week to focus on the issue of preservation of cathedrals and chapels throughout the vast country.

The meeting was attended by specialist craftsmen, experts and architects.

In an opening address, the head of the council cited the importance of creating a comprehensive register of destroyed and damaged churches in Russia, as well as preparation for an inaugural conference, entitled “Cultural Heritage Monuments of the Russian Orthodox Church,” which is set for May.
