Chinese government seizes and beats Christians, demolishes their church
Nearly 200 officials from the Chinese communist government recently descended upon the Sunzhuang Church in the country’s Henan province equipped with cranes, bulldozers, and other heavy machinery.
After removing all loose property from the complex, officers from the Zhengzhou High-Tech District Ethnic and Religious Affairs Bureau began seizing congregants who had gathered to protect their church building.
According to reports, at least one man was arrested and two women were physically abused to the point of hospitalization.
Government officials then demolished the building, bringing an end to a protracted dispute between the two sides that began in 2013 when the government issued its original demolition notice. The government claimed that Sunzhuang Church, which had officially registered as part of China’s network of government-run churches, had not followed all the specifications required for building the church.
Although the church produced documentation showing otherwise, the government cut off the electricity and water supply to the building and dispatched a team to demolish it. Members of the church effectively resisted that demolition until this month.
