PM Scott Morrison: Australia blessed for having citizens of Greek descent
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison this week referred to the 200th anniversary of the declaration of the Greek Revolution, in his message to Archbishop Makarios of Australia, with the latter briefing the Australian leader over this year’s commemorations and events on the island continent.
Speaking from the federal parliament, the Australian Prime Minister cited “an important day for Hellenism”.
“We address to all Greeks and especially to a very good friend of our country, the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with whom we have close cooperation and especially in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic…Australia is blessed for having citizens of Greek descent”, Morrison said, while making special reference to the Orthodox clerics and the work they perform in their parishes.
