Feast day of Monk-Martyrs Claudius, Diodore, Victor, Victorinus

The Church today venerates the memory of the Monk-Martyrs Claudius, Diodore, Victor, Victorinus – and those with them.
Today is also the feast day of the New Martyr Georgios of Ephesus, who while intoxicated renounced his faith and declared himself a Muslim – only to subsequently realize his folly and temporarily flee to the island of Samos.
He returned to his west Asia Minor homeland, however, and repeatedly upheld belief in Christ, and never yielded to demands by the Muslim authorities to publicly renounce his faith – even in the face of torture and threats of execution.
New Martyr Georgios was executed by beheading in April 1801
