Bishop Filaret of Kiev on Orthodox Church of the Ukraine, Ecumenical Patriarchate
The self-styled “Patriarch” of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Kiev Patriarchate, His Eminence Filaret, the head of the diocese of Kiev, listed the conditions, as he said, under which the now autocephalous Orthodox Church of the Ukraine could become a Patriarchate, according to the news agency Hlavkom.
The Ukrainian hierarch added that he was not invited by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople to last November’s ceremony granting the Tomos of Autocephaly because he bears the title of “patriarch”, while the Orthodox Church of the Ukraine is designated as a Metropolis.
Filaret said: “I am a Patriarch, if I arrive at the ceremony as a Patriarch, this means that the Ecumenical Patriarchate recognizes the Orthodox Church in the Ukraine as a Patriarchate.”
