Russian physicist on miracle of Holy Fire: Plasma phenomenon inside Church’s interior inexplicable, without justification
Another offensive reference this week, by a Greek author, to what the Orthodox faithful consider as the miracle of the Holy Light, again brought to the forefront a scientific mission supervised by Russian physicist Andrey Volkov, an associate professor in material science, during Easter in 2008.
The project was organized by Prof. Alexander Moskovsky for the needs of a documentary dedicated to the role of religious miracles.
On Holy Saturday in 2008, and at around 9 in the morning, Prof. Volkov entered the Church of the Holy Sepulcher with necessary scientific equipment. The basic instrument he used for his measurements was an oscilloscope, which was connected to a laptop equipped with appropriate software.
He located himself approximately 15 meters from the Holy Sepulcher and his basic priority was to record the phase of electromagnetic radiation at specific frequencies.
Prof. Volkov, in an interview on Russian television a year later, said… ” the appearance of the Holy Fire is accompanied by the appearance of plasma, which, externally, is very much like low heat plasma.”
According to the Russian physicist, the plasma phenomenon, which is believed to take place in the interior of the church, is entirely inexplicable and without justification, from a scientific standpoint. The high point for his measurements came when the Holy Fire appeared while the Patriarch was enclosed in the Sepulcher interior.
