Archbishop of America Elpidophoros visits Hellenic College and Holy Cross
The Archbishop of America, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros, issued a Homily at the Service of the Great Vespers on Saturday at the Holy Cross Chapel in Brookline, Massachusetts.
The Archbishop arrived at the Hellenic College and Holy Cross to bless and offer his best wishes to the Greek Orthodox seminary’s students and professors.
A traditional New Year’s pita-cutting was held afterwards.
In his address, His Eminence noted, among others, that “…Tonight, we gather at this service in order to implore God’s blessing upon the Spring Term of classes here at our Institution of Higher Learning and Preparation for the Holy Priesthood.”
In referring to the alternate Apolytikion dedicated to St. Photios, the great Patriarch of Constantinople, in other words, the concluding hymn sung at the end of offices, the Archbishop said we hear the following: “…Divine flame of the East, Splendor of the Church – O Father, preserve the Church unshaken…”
