Rebuilding Syria’s Churches
War-ravaged churches of Aleppo are being rebuilt, with the Christians in the north of the country ignoring threats and continued violence.
An initiative by the Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East, with the assistance of the Russian Orthodox Church, is gradually rebuilding places of worship and schools.
Despite the continued presence by various Islamist insurgents, including the al-qaeda affiliate and the so-called ISIS terrorists, the situation for Syria’s Christians is nevertheless improving.
A photograph this week circulated by the website opendoorsusa shows a group of young people in Aleppo singing hymns in a rebuilt Church during an Easter service.
Some 814,000 Christians are estimated to still live in Syria, out of a total population of 18 million.
