Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew attends event commemorating anniversary of the Imvros Union of Macedonia & Thrace

The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, on Thursday attended an event commemorating the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Imvros Union of Macedonia and Thrace, as well as the 31st anniversary of His Enthronement as the shepherd of the Mother Church.
The event took place in the city of Thessaloniki, and marked the conclusion of the Ecumenical Patriarch’s week-long pastoral visit to northern Greece.

His All Holiness, who is a native of the northeast Aegean Island awarded to Turkey with the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne, told His fellow islanders that “…I am always by your side, wherever I can help, I am at your side.”

He also expressed satisfaction over the fact that, after half a century, Greek-language education has returned to the island, with schools opened at all levels, from kindergarten to high school, and with a total of 60 pupils attending.

Meanwhile, in a development related to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Patriarch of All Romania, His Beatitude Daniel, conveyed his condolences to His All Holiness on the solemn occasion of the repose in the Lord of Metropolitan of Sassima, Gennadios.

The reposed hierarch of the Ecumenical Throne, who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 71, was particularly beloved by the faithful of the Romanian Patriarchate.
