Feast day of the Nativity of the Forerunner, John the Baptist
The Church today commemorates the Nativity of the Forerunner, John the Baptist.
A great Vespers was celebrated on Thursday afternoon, on the occasion of today’s feast day of the Nativity of the Forerunner, at a dedicated cathedral of the Holy Metropolis of Piraeus, and specifically in the Schisto district.
The great Vespers was officiated by the Metropolitan of Piraeus, His Eminence Seraphim.
Further south, in the well-known coastal city of Nafplio, a chapel dedicated to St. John the Baptist was formally opened on Thursday, adjacent to the cathedral and pilgrimage of St. Anastasios of Nafplio. The Metropolitan of Argolida, His Eminence Nektarios, officiated at the temple-opening liturgical service. His Eminence subsequently officiated at an Archieratical Vespers service.
The parish priest of the newly dedicated chapel, Fr. Konstantinos, subsequently addressed the gathered clergy and faithful, extending a heartfelt thanks to the donors who helped build the chapel and an adjacent spiritual center.
