Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II performed a symbolic ritual of removal of Jesus Christ’ body from the cross, at Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral today.

Today is Holy Friday, also known as Red Friday, a day when Orthodox Christians commemorate crucifixion of Jesus Christ. This day is the hardest among the days of Holy Week that proceed Easter Sunday.

No services are conducted at temples as a sign of respect to Jesus Christ’s sacrifice to save mankind.
