Int’l Day Commemorating Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief today
On this day, the international community remembers the survivors and victims of religious-based violence.
According to the world watch list, compiled by the organization Open Doors for the ongoing year, Christians remain the most persecuted group around the world, as more than 360 million Christians live in areas where they face high levels of persecution, simply for their faith in Christ.
In a message on the occasion, UN Secretary-General António Guterres noted that “…on this day, we honor those who have lost their lives or who have otherwise suffered for simply seeking to exercise their fundamental rights to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion or belief. I reiterate my firm solidarity with these victims.”
