Apostolic visit by Patriarch of Alexandria Theodoros II to America

Thursday marked the first full day of an apostolic visit by the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, His Beatitude Theodoros II, to the United States, the first-ever to America by an enthroned Patriarch of Alexandria.

In the morning, His Beatitude met with local hierarchs of other Christian churches in the New York City area.

His Beatitude was accompanied by His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, and other hierarchs of the Archdiocese. Issues discussed were ecumenical and interfaith relations between both traditions, Orthodox and Catholic, as well as the state of Orthodoxy in Africa.

After the meeting, the Patriarch of Alexandria visited St. Patrick’s Cathedral before making his first official visit to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.
