Cyprus’ Permanent Representative to UN decries continued Turkish violations against island republic
The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Cyprus to the United Nations, Amb. Andreas Hadji-chrysanthou, has sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, denouncing what he charges are Turkish violations of the island republic’s national air and maritime space between the months of January and August 2022.
The top Cypriot diplomat’s letter reminds that Turkey, which illegally occupies one-third of the island republic’s territory, and its subservient Turkish Cypriot pseudo-state on the island, have publicly threatened to exploit the region towards their own benefit, ignoring UN Security Council resolution 5-50, which requires a return of the coastal Varoshia district to its legal owners and the transfer of the area’s administration to the United Nations.
