Three more arrested after Yekaterinburg church construction protest

The Verkh-Isetsky District Court in Yekaterinburg and a justice of the peace examined material on Friday against three participants of an unauthorized protest against the construction of St. Catherine’s Church in the city center, court spokeswoman Olga Taff told Interfax.

“Four files were received against three people,” Taff said.

All three were given five-day custodial sentences. No other cases have been brought.

Earlier, 30 arrests were reported. The total has thus now risen to 33.

On May 13 unauthorized protests took place in Yekaterinburg against the construction of the church in place of the small park in Oktyabrskaya Square. Dozens were arrested.
