Trio of hierarch candidates for vacant throne of Metropolis of Paphos of Cyprus emerge
The All-Reverend Archimandrites Tychikos Vryonis and Ioannis Ioannou, along with the Bishop of Amathountos, His Grace Nikolaos, emerged as the trio of candidates in a lay election on Sunday for the new Metropolitan of Paphos.
Hierarch members of Church of Cyprus’ Holy Synod will now decide the new Metropolitan from among the trio of candidates.
The final turnout announced from among the total number of eligible voters was near 26 percent.
Archimandrite Tychikos received a shade above 50 percent of the vote.
In a statement afterwards, the Archbishop of Nova Justiniana and All Cyprus, His Beatitude Georgios, said the Holy Synod will convene on Thursday to validate the ecclesiastical election result, while a new session will be announced for the election of a new Metropolitan of Paphos by the Holy Synod.
