Live-streaming of Great Lent liturgy of Second Salutations to the All-Holy Theotokos by Pemptousia platform

The Pemptousia television platform today will live-stream the Great Lent liturgy of the Second Salutations to the All-Holy Theotokos, the Virgin Mary, from the cathedral of St. George, in the east Athens district of Papagou, beginning at 19.30 Athens time, or 17.30 GMT.
The emotional service includes the chanting of the second stanza of the Akathist Hymn, reverently heard in Orthodox churches and chapels around the world today.

In a related development, the Holy & Great Monastery of Vatopedi, in continuing its emphasis on Athonite psaltic tradition, has unveiled a series of hymns for the Great Feast of the Annunciation of the Theotokos.

Today’s program on Pemptousia also features the showing of the documentary “St. Joseph the Hesychast”, accurately recounting the 20th century saint’s struggle for asceticism in some of the most remote sites on Mount Athos, the semi-autonomous monastic community in northern Greece.

Award-winning Hollywood actor and musician Jonathan Jackson portrays St. Joseph the Hesychast in the documentary.
