The Orthodox nuns at the Novo-Tikhvinsky convent, outside the Russian city Ekaterinburg, are known as practitioners and caretakers of a difficult but spectacular art form, as they continue to produce some of the world’s finest hand-made priestly vestments and sticharia.

The nuns use Byzantine and ancient Russian patterns, some dating back to the 7th century AD, with all the clerical garments made of silk and brocade.
