A Romanian Orthodox Church skete is set to reopen in the Jordan Valley (VIDEO)
A Romanian Orthodox Church skete is set to reopen in the Jordan Valley after half a century.
Father Theophilos Anastasoe, the representative of the Romanian Patriarchate in the Holy Land, acquired a necessary license from Jordanian authorities for the skete to operate as a place of worship in the West Bank.
According to Father Theophilos, very few objects remain inside a currently disused chapel, with the altar and frescoes having sustained major damages during warfare in 1967.
Access to the site is currently controlled by the Israeli army, and reaching the church requires special permission.
A demining operation must first be completed in the entire area, followed by restoration works, before Orthodox pilgrims can again have access, he said.
