New Archbishop-elect of America on ‘new page’ for influential Archdiocese
The new Archbishop-elect of America, His Eminence Elpidoforos, presided at an Orthos (Matins) service and the Divine Liturgy at the Zoodochou Pigis (Life-bearing Spring) Cathedral in the north Athens district of Kalogreza on Sunday morning.
His Eminence Elpidoforos will be enthroned as the new Archbishop of the very influential and important Archdiocese of America on June 22 in New York City.
The Archbishop-elect was joined by several hierarchs of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece in the Divine Liturgy, while scores of faithful flocked to the cathedral.
After the service, the new Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in North America, in a brief sermon, noted, among others:
– The role of the Church is to unite all and help lead the motherland to where it rightly belongs
– He feels honored for the congregation entrusted to him by the Ecumenical Patriarch
– The Greek Diaspora in America retains a potent and well-financed lobby
– He honors his predecessor’s accomplishments and that he feels reverence and awe in assuming this mantl.
