New Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Church in Australia, Mr Makarios: “We are not in a hurry to split the Archdiocese”

The new Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Church in Australia, Mr Makarios says that he wants first to settle in the country, form a personal view of how the Archdiocese functions and then submit his views to the Ecumenical Patriarchate regarding the notion for breaking it up to Metropolises.

In an interview with the Athenian newspaper “To Ethnos”, the new head of the Greek Orthodox Church in Australia admitted that there was a thought of division and he was positive to the idea.

However, he revealed that many people contacted him from Australia thanking the Patriarchate for not rushing to a decision.

Mr Makarios praised his predecessor, the late Stylianos, noting that every individual has their own personality and each of us leave their own mark.

Mr Makarios is expected in Sydney in the following weeks, with his enthronement ceremony to take place on Saturday 29th of June.
