Pentecost at the St. George Cathedral of Stockholm.
The great feast of Pentecost is a feast of fire. The whole story which we read in the Acts of the Apostles centers around fire. We see the fire of the Holy Spirit here being creative and transformative: the Disciples are transformed into Apostles; their tongues are, in a sense, recreated so that they can speak in other languages.
That same fire recreates us and transforms us. The same Spirit that blazed over the heads of the Apostles also melts each of us like wax at Chrismation so that we are easily shaped by the Seal of the Holy Spirit.
Being filled with the fire of the Spirit, it challenges us to put that life into practice, to step out of our comfort zones and to proclaim the Gospel with zeal to a world that needs it desperately.
