Cincture of the Theotokos – the Haghia Zoni – arrives in city of Drama amid head of state honors (VIDEOS + PHOTOS)
The Cincture of the Theotokos, known as the Haghia Zoni, or Holy Sash in Greek, was received with head of state honors on Thursday afternoon in the northern Greek city of Drama.
The Holy Relic was conveyed to the city by Elder Archimandrite Ephraim, the Abbot of the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi, who was received by the Metropolitan of Drama, His Eminence Pavlos, at the main Eleftheria Square.
The Haghia Zoni was conveyed to the Cathedral of St. Nicholas via a religious procession through the city’s center, with a local political and military officials in attendance, along with a Church hierarchs and hundreds of faithful lining the route.
The Cathedral will host the Holy Relic until Sunday, June 23, with the Church’s doors opening at 6 .m. and remaining open until late in the evening.
The Haghia Zoni of the Blessed Virgin Mary will be temporarily conveyed this month from the historic Mt. Athos Monastery Vatopedi, first to Drama, then to the Monastery’s estate in Porto Lagos, in extreme NE Greece, and finally, to the southern city of Corinth.
