Faithful flock to see precise replica of miraculous Vatopedi icon of the Virgin Mary (VIDEOS + PHOTOS)

Scores of faithful on Wednesday afternoon flocked to the icon of the Panaghia Paramythia, known as Vatopedi Mother of Consolation or Comfort, at the Monastery of the Panmegiston Taxiarchon, or Archangels, outside the southern Greece coastal town of Nea Epidavros.

A precise replica of the miraculous 8th century icon of the Virgin Mary was conveyed from Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi by the Elder Archimandrite Ephaim – the Mt. Athos monastery’s Abbot – along with other Elders, and was received at the Monastery by the Metropolitan of Argolida, His Eminence Nektarios, as well as the Reverend Mother Superior Makaria.

Nea Epidavros is the coastal town near the ancient theatre of Epidaurus, in the northeast Peloponnese, of southern Greece.

In a brief address, the Elder Archimandrite Ephaim noted that “… the Virgin Mary is the first nun, after the first monk, who is Christ. It was a request by the nuns for the Holy Icon to be conveyed to the monastery. The time came today, and the Virgin Mary is before us.”
