110 years of the Church Community of Ugljevik

His Grace Bishop Fotije of Zvornik and Tuzla officiated the Holy Liturgy in the Ugljevik church of St. Petka Parasceve on August 8, 2020.

-Our ancestors expressed their faith by  constructing churches, monasteries and parish homes so that their heirs would have a place to worship God, baptize children, get married and send  the departed ones to eternal life. The history of this region is full of crucifixions, and nevertheless, thanks to these churches we have been resurrected as a people and have been preserved to this day. We remember in our prayers of all those who contributed to the construction of this shrine. Our monastery of Tavna had been a spiritual center of the Serbs of this area before the churches in Ugljevik were built, Bishop Fotija spoke on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the founding of the Church Community of Ugljevik, Republic of Srpska.

The church of St. Petka Parasceve marked 30 years since the beginning of its construction and 20 years since the consecration. Bishop Fotije consecrated foundations of the Saint Sava Centre in the church-yard. During the Holy Liturgy the Hierarch ordained deacon Velislav Misura to the rank of priest.

The church-feast protector was the Mayor of Ugljevik, Mr. Vasilije Peric, who was awarded by a Bishop’s Charter in recognition of his active participation in the life of Ugljevik parishes. The Ugljevik Mine and Thermal Power Plant as well as numerous associations and individuals were awarded by Bishop’s Charter of Merit.
