Concerns over India’s Christian populations

Concerns amongst India’s sizable and often persecuted Christian population continued over the recent period, ahead of general elections on April 11.
Worries revolve around whether an election victory by the current ruling party will worsen conditions for Christians on the Indian subcontinent.

While making tremendous strides over recent decades in numerous sectors, India continues to entail risks for Christians exercising their faith.

According to the group OpenDoors, 775 recorded incidents of violence against Christians, due to their religious affiliation, occurred in 2018, incidents that affected more than 50,000 people.

However, the group estimated that the figure is much higher, as many victims do not report the violence and intimidation.
