93rd birthday today of Archbishop of Albania Anastasios

Today marks the 93rd birthday of the Archbishop of Durres, Tirana and All Albania, His Beatitude Anastasios.
His Beatitude was born on Nov. 4, 1929, in Piraeus, Greece.

The hierarch arrived in the Adriatic country in 1991 as part of a herculean effort by the Ecumenical Patriarchate to revive Orthodoxy there after more than four centuries of oppressive communist rule in the most isolationist regimes in Europe.
