ALEXANDRIA- Egypt’s Health Minister Receives Pope and Patriarch Theodore II to Discuss New Hospital Project in Alexandria
Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, received His Beatitude Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria, together with Metropolitan Damaskinos, Patriarchal Vicar in Alexandria, to discuss prospects for cooperation in establishing a new hospital affiliated with the Patriarchate in Alexandria.
During the meeting, the Minister warmly welcomed His Beatitude and his accompanying delegation, affirming the deep historical and cultural ties between Egypt and Greece, which he described as a model of integrated strategic partnership. He directed ministry officials to provide full support for the project, which is expected to serve approximately 5.6 million people in Alexandria, and to expedite all necessary licensing procedures in accordance with the highest standards.
Dr. Abdel Ghaffar also instructed the Ministry’s engineering department to conduct an urgent site visit and coordinate with the Greek implementing body and Alexandria Governorate to review all technical and construction requirements.
For his part, His Beatitude Patriarch Theodore II expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Egyptian state and the Ministry of Health in supporting the healthcare sector, noting that the hospital reflects the Church’s humanitarian and social mission in serving all people without discrimination.
The meeting was attended by senior ministry officials responsible for therapeutic medicine, national projects, and critical and emergency care.
