ALEXANDRIA – Patriarch Theodore II: “Peace, Reconciliation and Brotherhood Among Peoples”

On Sunday, 13 September 2026, His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa Theodore II welcomed around 30 members of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO), representing Greece, Egypt, Romania, Albania, Bulgaria, Jordan and other countries, at the historic Patriarchal Monastery of St George in Old Cairo.

The Divine Liturgy was presided over by His Beatitude Patriarch Theodore II, with the participation of hierarchs of the Patriarchate of Alexandria. In his message, the Patriarch emphasized the urgent need for peace, reconciliation and brotherhood among peoples, praying that God may enlighten the leaders and peoples of the world to build a society founded on justice, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.

The Patriarch also highlighted the importance of international cooperation in protecting Christian values, strengthening dialogue among peoples and promoting peaceful coexistence. Particular attention was given to the shared biblical heritage of Egypt and Jordan, from the Holy Family’s journey through Egypt to the waters of the Jordan where Christ was baptized. The Patriarch described these sacred places as powerful bridges of faith, dialogue, peace and mutual understanding.

He further welcomed efforts to promote the Holy Family Trail in Egypt and the international recognition of the site of Christ’s Baptism in Jordan, emphasizing their importance not merely as religious destinations, but as witnesses to the region’s shared biblical heritage. Following the Divine Liturgy, His Beatitude held a warm meeting with the members of the IAO, during which they exchanged views on peace, Christian values, cooperation among nations and the role of parliamentary institutions in fostering dialogue and understanding.
