Amendment ratified for one-off state aid to Church-affiliated charities

A draft bill amendment was ratified in Greece’s Parliament on Monday to extend a one-off economic subsidy to Church-affiliated institutions active in charitable works and social support, as the latter have been particularly affected during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Specific conditions are stipulated for receiving the financial aid, with beneficiaries being the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece, the Church of Crete, the Holy Metropolises of the Dodecanese, as well as the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece and various Orthodox Church-affiliated legal entities that operate dining halls.
