Announcement on the Proceedings of the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate
The Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate convened in its regular sessions on Monday and Tuesday, 20 and 21 April, under the presidency of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
According to the official announcement issued by the Chief Secretariat of the Holy and Sacred Synod, “at the outset, the customary exchanges of festal greetings took place between His All-Holiness and His Eminence Elder Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon, on behalf of the Holy and Sacred Synod, on the occasion of the Feast of Holy Pascha. Furthermore, the venerable Synodal members offered their warm congratulations to His All-Holiness on his recent election as a foreign associate member of the French Academy of Moral and Political Sciences, to which the Patriarch responded with emotion and gratitude.
During these sessions, the Holy and Sacred Synod, among other matters, examined the case of Hieromonk Paisios Hatzigeorgiou, a cleric of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, and, for ecclesiastical offences committed, imposed upon him the penalty of deposition from the priesthood, restoring him to the ranks of the monastics.
Likewise, all items listed on the agenda were reviewed, and the appropriate decisions were taken.”
